i see - i suppose i was trying to link the post both to Joe's blog and to The Valve - i think your explanation created even more confusion in my head, but a good kind of confusion... :-)

It was a silly joke, that's all. The two "s"'s in Kugelmass got turned into one "n" in your trackback -- but your trackback also said that "We get a nod from Kugelman and The Valve" as if they were two different entities, not one person cross-posting. n for nod, s for speaker, one s becomes two n's at the same time as two s's become one n.

The two s's got turned into an n in compensation for one nod turning into two.

In re: "the power of the image", that's the only point that I don't really think is new for 2007. Long Sunday used to be attached to the iconic image to the point where it seemed that nothing could be said without one. I'm hoping that the illustrative image dies out, actually. Putting up a little picture of Zizek whenever one discussed Zizek seemed to me like an insufficiently ironic gesture, as if to say "Look, our generation is so attuned to visual celebrity that we can't even discuss someone's ideas without mocking our attachment to it"; perhaps soon one more level of irony will take place and it will simply become annoying.

it's joseph kugelmass - why does it say "kugelman" in the above trackback/pingback? doesn't make me look very intellectual, does it?
